8 Sep Season opens.

Just got my shrimp tags 9/8/2017 season opens at 12:00 noon.

Thats the second person who has said that, regs state first friday on or before Sept. 15th.Hope that gets clarified.

Got my tags this week and it is clearly marked on each tag that the season opens September 8th at noon. I was confused also as I planned a trip and will not be back in town until the 13th. Bummer!

has there been any noise about how well shrimp season is forecast for this year. it will be my first time back in about 4 years and i’m pretty excited.
My favorite part besides a full cooler is sitting back watching the sun go down and the anticipation of whether or not your bait is full of shrimp yet!

Since they changed the season start date years ago, it has been at noon on the last Friday on/before Sept 15 which would put it starting on the 15th this year. But both my tags and the DNR website have the season beginning on the 8th this year. I don’t understand the discrepancy.

I did a quick search thru the regs and I couldn’t find that wording anywhere, but I may have just not looked in the right place.

-The size of a fish is directly proportional to the time between when it’s lost and the story is told. - Me
-What’s the best eating fish, you ask? I’ve found that for a lot people, its the ones that they happen to be able to catch, clean, and cook. - My Dad (1/13/37 - 9/27/16 I love you Pops)
-Until you have loved a dog, part of your soul remains unawakened. Anatole France (paraphrased)
-RIP my “Puppy Dog” 10/15/2004 - 1/14/2013. I’ll never forget him. What a special friend he was.

Little confused myself,I did a search and it said on or before the 15th. I made reservations at Buck Hall months ago based on that as my group has been doing opening week-end for years. I hate screwing up tradition! But,DNR website says the 8th.

SC law states that DNR may set a 60 day season between Sept 1 and Nov 15. DNR’s rule of thumb was to use the 1st friday ON or BEFORE Sept 15 ; however, if you look back in history, they have chosen to use the BEFORE when the 15th fell on Friday. From the very beginning of baiting in SC, I do not ever remember the season starting on the 15th.

the simple word “or” changes everything

@Hammurred the season is expected to be a bust over all. Don’t bother dusting off the poles this year.

makes sense to me. the 8th is the second friday of the month and the first friday before the 15th.

The wording, as I remember it, was “last Friday ON</font id=“red”> or before the 15th”.

Season? I normally start a few weeks early before the yahoos get out there.

This should be an awesome year for shrimping. We had a very mild winter. A wet summer is supposed to be good for shrimp. There are many other factors that can affect the size and number of shrimp, but at least we have two big ones in our favor!

All this rain in Charleston will ruin the season. My worst years with numbers and size of shrimp have been rainy years. It drives them out of the creeks and the don’t grow as fast. In deep water they get eaten by fish.

Reel man ,I’m afraid you r right. I have not been since they started making u have a shrimp license but I would get salty as I could. Good luck to you

Heard most of the shrimp have black gill and are dying off quick!

I hope ya’ll are wrong about the black gill. My observation over the years is you can’t predict a shrimp season. Sometimes everyone says it will be terrible, and the shrimp are there, and visa versa. The only predictions worse than the weather are the shrimp predictions. But, it is fun to speculate. We’ll just have to wait and see what we have.

I’ve always done best the last week of August!

Season has always started the second Friday in September. The 8th is the second Friday in september.

I have heard this as well.

Do you know if or how this effects the edibility of the shrimp?
