I have a couple of questions for Chris V. I have this motor I picked up and have been working on. It hadnt run in ages and was full of dirt dobber nests and general filth. It had decent cold iron compression so I took it apart and cleaned it up, and put in a water pump kit, fuel pump kit,and carb kit. The wiring harness was rotten with some wires completely rotted in two.I had a control box off a 99 motor laying around so I scrapped the wiring harness off the motor and hooked the harness from the box to the motor. The motor cranks right up and runs great with the control box key, but the key wont shut her down. I have three wires coming from the power pack, one orange to each coil and one black that my seloc manual says goes to ground thru the control box. I know my key is taking this wire to ground because i got in line with it with my multi meter and see continuity when the switch is in the off position. Can you give me any suggestions, I am assuming the black wire is to ground out the power pack. Also I went to change the oil in the lower unit and a very small amount of oil came out. It looked free of water and no metal but when I try to pump fres oil in It comes straight out of the vent hole, almost like there is no place for it to go. IT shifts in and out of gear fine by hand so I didnt plan to tear into it. what do you think and I really appreciate any advice.
Power Pack had an open in the grounding circuit. Changed out power pack and she starts and stops by key now. Lower unit only holds 1 ounce of oil, so she is good to go. Gonna get title first of next week, if any one needs a motor give me a shout.
glad you got it fixed
kill switch wire is black with a yellow stripe
