Won’t plane out and shakes like it is coming off a good drunk. Sounds kinda rough also. In neutral it runs fairly smooth but in gear it starts shaking. Will run up a little but boat won’t get on a plane. Trimmed all the way down on a 14’ Mckee it should level off. Cleaned the carbs real good. Gonna check compression again and chunk in some new plugs.
check your spark
Checked spark today and found weak spark on top cylinder. Plugs good, swapped plug wires and still weak from the wire. Wires from power pack connector go into gel on coils. Compression is 130,125 and 125. Any body got an old 70hp laying around?
I’ve got the same motor, just the 86 model. So you did try one of the different coils on the top cylinder? If you still have a weak spark I would say it’s the power pack.
I had the exact same problem with mine about 5 years ago.
Hey Folly. I just tried a different plug wire on the top coil. All the coils on this motor have the wires going into the gel. Wish I could swap the coils around. That’s how I figured out the power pack on my 110 was bad.
CC, most coils have the same length wires…what prevents the temporary swap to check spark again??
Sounds like U R on the right track.
Are you sure you got the carbs cleaned real good? Does it sound like it is bogging down when you try to get on plane?
Not bogging down. It gets almost there but doesn’t have the umph to slide over the hump. Got the makings of a rooster tail good ways behind the boat. Just need that extra kick in the arse. Salthunter I know what you’re saying. It won’t do any good to move the coils since the wiresfrom the harness connector go into the gel part of the coil. The only way to actually move the coil is split the wires on 2 of them and splice back together. I’m just gonna buy a coil and pray it aint the pp.
