depends on what all is being done, just changing the oil… that sounds high, but if they are replacing fuel pump, water pump, fuel seperator etc, its about right

Dude… Thats outrageous… Your signature says Verado 150 so im pretty sure thats a 4 cylinder and theres no way it should be that high. My 4 stroke 6 cylinder suzuki is only rougly 280 for the 20 hr service and 100 hr service… Sounds like a rip off.

Go to the Charleston Marine Website on this sites sponsor list. (ChrisV) It lists exactly what they will do for a specific price. Had it done on 2 of my boats and getting ready to do it on a 3rd and I live 2 hours away. Good people, good work, fair prices IMO.

Give Chris-V at CHARLESTON MARINE a call 843-2252628 they’ll let you know different types of annual service that can perform. replacing spark plugs, oil, and fuel filter, and do a carbon removal treatment is common stuff. of course u can get crazy like replacing pumps and other stuff.

Hanckel Marine does all my service work and I am really impressed with how they go the extra mile, and, no, they are not sponsors of mine, just good, knowledgeable folks.

I admit that I am a little bit anal.

What is this thread doing in “Inshore Reports”?

This country is going to hell in a handbasket.

People can’t read anymore.

By the way, how about finding out just what an annual service includes.

Try Hanckel or Renken both good people with great mechanics

Some good repair businesses have been named here; I say “Amen” to all of them, but I also say the list is missing another good bunch of people, and they are Seel’s Outboard Marine. Sooner or later, you will end up going to a factory certified marine mechanic, like the ones named in these posts. You’ll pay a little bit more, but they are using factory parts and they back their work, and they return your calls.

I have had great service from the guys at Butler Marine on Hwy 17. They ran a diagnostic, rebuilt three carbs, and changed plugs and wires for $440. They even put on a new factory replacement prop and didn’t charge me a dime for it. They are not a mercury dealer, but have taken care of mine to my satisfaction. I have a 90 2 stroke.

$850 sounds crazy high! I have the same motor and paid a little more than a 1/3 of that for a 200 hr service using a local repair shop.

RtJohnson- How many hours do you have on the engine? Have you had any problem with the engine “making oil”?

A lot of good information on this site for Verado owners.

Also that is probably changing plugs and impeller as well as all fluids. Not sure if I would change plugs and impeller just fluids and have them print report when you have service done.

You would get better help if you would ask admin to move to Boats and Motors.

RT,
Welcome to CFC. I see you have already met the forum police. Please notice you still received some good info though. The police post on average, once a day for two yrs. I post once every 100 days for 7 yrs. There are some great dealers out there and some not so. Check around and compare service and value and then stick with that dealer. They will get to know you, your engine and offer great advice. $850 is steep, but maybe you were asking for a complete (general) service job and not for a specific service. It could have been just a communication error. Then again ???

We shouldn’t allow gamecocks on this site. They win one year and think they have some say so… Check out Charleston Marine on line or give them a call. For service work, you will know what the cost will be and what will be worked on before they get started. They are always more than welcome to talk to you ahead of time about any symptoms/problems you are having and can usually nail your diagnosis with an in-person conversation. I always leave feeling confident I have gotten the best service for a fair price.

I agree…Grow up fellas! Give the guy a break! …or at LEAST, be tactful about it!

Excuses? I’ve heard them all!

My first 100hr service ended up costing me $750 for Honda 200… It started out at $300… Picked it up later that day, out 750. My first 6 months of owning a boat. Every article I read said they would cost more to service. But $750??? But that’s what you get in the Florida Keys.

Flash forward 4 years, Meet Chris V at boat show, new Honda Dealer(finally!) Cost was half that, only because I needed 2 new batteries (they were the original Interstates from 2005).

So definitely go see Cris V at Charleston Marine…
Thanks Chris!
