Nice work fritz.

Jimmy V said it best, "Don’t give up, don’t ever give up. We left the IOP and worked the buoys to no avail and ended up over at the 60 with nothing happening there either. Went back to the cans and worked those again with nothing but lots of cudas on them. Decided to head home and put the nose of the boat on the end of IOP and took off. First 2 miles we ran past a nice fish and looped back but couldn’t locate him. Figured that was the final slap in the face and we decided we hated Cobia fishing and it was nothing but a waste of fuel and time. Put the nose back on the end of the island and a few miles later we passed 2 fish working some bait. Circled back around and worked the path on th gps. Thought we lost them but at the last minute I saw the fish off in the distance. Told J.R. to get ready. Got in front of the fish and he pitched a live crab to it and the Game was on. 20 minute or so fight and the fish was boatside, then the fun began, to big for the net so it was up to the hand gaff. We were able to get the fish in the boat and straight to the cooler. Only had 40lbs of ice and we had been thinking that was our jinx for being presumptious. Thankfully we were only a few miles from home at that point. Always a pleasure to fish with J.R. We have caught some nice fish thru the years together. A little over 88lbs which someone said was just shy of the state record. While cleaning the fish we sent some up to the marina deli and they fried up a nice pile for us to snack on. Doesn’t get much better than that.
Heck of a fish there, nice job

Thanks everyone. That’s the largest edible fish I’ve ever been a part of catching.

dang nice fish
ya’ll were lucky- almost a lost fish- 88lber to the boat in 20 mins is strong. I caught a 44 Sunday and it took 30 mins to the gaff on 20 lb gear.
what brand hook? we straightened and broke a gamakatsu 7/0 circle in the broad river last week. looked just like that but the barb and point section broke off and we lost the fish. that was on a bottom rod with 80lb braid.
Nice work!
