Bonzo, one of the best fresh grilling fish in the ocean IMO. Almost any seasoning, some Pam and a clean grill or skillet on med high and pull off while still a little pink in the middle. The fish will continue to cook once removed from the heat. Even better the next day cooled just as it is! leftovers make great fish salads too.
I use bean bags to sit on during the long waits when we anchor up in the broad river. They work pretty good for keeping the fish from tearing up the boat. Toss the bean bag on the fish and have a seat! Otherwise it’s straight into the box! I keep my big storage locker cleaned out during Cobia season since I don’t have a big fish box on my bay boat.
Bozo, we sent some up to the deli because we were hungry and so was the other 5 or 6 people hovering over that fish wanting some. I’ve eaten grilled with 2 different spices and fried some at home myself. The fresh fried from the deli may have been the best I had. Not sure if the size of this fish played in to it being a little “tough” texture wise. When raw it reminded me a little of raw chicken the way it cut up. I made sure to eat or give away every bit of the fish I had.

“Very nice cobia Fritz. I know what it takes to put a fish like that in the box”
Ditto that! I once free gaffed a killer whale. Bit three of my arms off before we got it to settle down. I was @#$$%^& out of my ears for three weeks after.

Well I’ll be… I just assumed you didn’t take fish home to cook.
Nice fish Fritz. Biggest cobia I’ve landed was 42 pounds. 20 min from hook set to in boat is excellent for one that size.
I think a new forum should be created for this and others called “Nearshore Reports.” This forum would be for all fishing that is in front of the beaches but not offshore trolling.
