I was mentally prepared to do yard work when my wife got home yesterday. Instead, she said how about we go fishing? Cue agreement, bait run, hooking up boat. We hit the water at about an hour before dead low and fished both sides of one dock. Down current first, had a pair of dolphins feeding across the creek and on the other side of the dock. I caught a small trout in about 4’ of water right outside the dock. We had a couple nibbles other than that but no fish. We saw fish on the other side so we moved over there and anchored in about a foot of water. Tide was still going out but very slowly and we were set up up current of the dock. My wife caught 2 upper slot reds and just missed one bite. The kids had fun and a bunch of snacks but they didn’t have any luck.
Forgot to detail it above but the trout was on a split shot/circle hook rig and the reds were on a cork with about 18” of leader. Mud minnows for bait and entertainment.
Everything we’ve caught in the past 3 weeks has been on minnows either under a cork with 18-24” of leader or on a circle hook with 3 #5 split shot 6-8” up from the hook.
