Caught these two slots this afternoon around 1:30pm at low tide on a sparkly gold DOA shrimp rigged under a popping cork. Both of the fish measured 20" and one of them was tagged by DNR. Fish on.

two tagged fish… what are the odds of that
good job
I took a buddy out about a month ago and we caught a tagged fish and I told him that was a lucky fish, b/c you don’t catch tagged fish that often. He caught two more tagged fish in that hour. We caught 6 reds 3 with tags. HA HA!
When they are tagged they are often many fish in the same area/school tagged by either DNR or rec anglers. They don’t move very far so it’s really not as unusual as you might think!

Optiker, you are right I catch a ton of tagged fish and have started tagging my own lately. I talked with the person in charge of the tagging program about some of the tags I see and he explained that the larger orange tags like seen in the photo are done by DNR (they actually make a slit incision in the belly and put them inside for best retention) and the other smaller usually yellow tags are done by rec anglers. You use the gun for fish 10-23" and an applicator (looks like an ice pick) for larger fish. I usually will record the tag number to report the fish info to DNR. I think it wil be neat for other people to catch the fish that I have and then get updates on them.

does the DNR still give out shirts and hats if you report catching a tagged fish?
YES they do still give you a shirt or a hat. It’s pretty uncommon to catch multiple tagged fish in one trip. 3 in one trip is very rare.
What waters were you fishing?
