Took the kids out after dinner. 6:30 by the time we got lines in. After several poor trips on the lower lake I was going to go up in the big saluda, but after seeing some mid lake reports went to one of my favorite spots above bomb. On our way out of the cove in shallow water there was bait and gar all over the top. When we got to 40’ the striper showed up and were very thick at 50’. When we got to 60’ they disappeared. Got hits as fast as I could get the lines down with two five year olds bringing them in and catching the bait. Odd thing was the bigger fish were on top of the shorts, it’s almost always the opposite. Ended up with 6 shorts, 2 keepers (just 21") and a 24" channel cat. The striper didn’t look all that great, very skinny considering the amount of bait. Stayed till 9 but the fishing died just after dark. But they had fun watching the bait in the hydroglow, playing with the dead bait and glowsticks
Good post and pics Tom! … Yep. The fish are rather emaciated now. Jennifer’s 2 fish she weighed in at the ladies tournament were both around 25 inches but combined for just a little over 9 pounds. You can read a newspaper through them:) When I cleaned the 10 we brought home this morning, the lower belly sections of the filets weren’t worth the effort.
