Started out with us getting up at 430 to be at my dads to leave there at 5am.
We made it out to a slightly windy but beautiful day that the Lord have us.
We made it across the choppy bay to where we were going and found plenty of shrimp but they were very mixed. Most being small to medium with a few large mixed in and a lot them were escaping the net. We made four passes on the 9 poles we had and we got a little more than 3/4 of a cooler. We had a blast with my boy playing in the fish meal and mud and feeding the sea gulls. He had a blast.
This is what most all the casts on the poles looked like. Now if all the shrimp were large we would have limited out in two passes and that would’ve been great.
After all the fun he knocked out on the ride back across the bay. He was standing up and leaning against my dads leg in this pic. He was wore out.
Back at the landing headed home, tired, and happy. It was a great day spent with my dad and my son. Can’t ask for anything better.
Great memories there. I can’t wait for my 17 month old grandson to get old enough to enjoy the river. He’s not crazy about wearing the bulky toddler lifejackets right now.
Hey spec, I have 2 kids that I have had on the boat since they were babies and now are 4 & 5. I have had them in the puddle jumper life jackets since they were 18-24 months old and they like them a lot more than the vest.
As a dad, I really, really like these because if something were to happen or they jump in the pool without you because they are completely, utterly, and totally fearless of the water as my daughter is, it floats them upright 100% of the time with ZERO assistance from you or them. It is a must have for me.
Awesome post. Thats why I fish and Shrimp to spend quality time with the family, Making memories that will last a life time and that will be passed from generation to generation.
Cracker Larry, that “bucketized” kid is a hoot. It does my heart good to see folks taking time to help their kids/grandkids learn about God’s beautiful outdoors.
My grandson is wide open and is curious about everything. He gives this old man “new eyes”. We get so used to stuff that we ignore the things that fascinate these little ones. Thanks to all for sharing!
