9/26 - Bulls with Fritz

Met Fritz at 7, out around the lighthouse 30 mins later looking for bait. Filled up the baitwell with some big Menhaden and we were on our way. Fished two or three spots, had my personal best redfish, prob about 36", maybe 25# or so at the first spot. A few sharks, slack tide, got quieter so moved. A couple more fish, moved a little bit, and once the tide started to push it was game on. Had maybe another 6 or 7 Bulls, nearly as big as the first, a couple of smaller ones. Had a real nice BSB, a tiny BSB that was smaller than the cut Menhaden, and 4 different types of shark.
At one point Fritz is releasing a small Red we just caught while the other rod goes off.
A really great mornings fishing, but what I love about going out with Fritz is I allways learn something new. Got the hang of getting the big reds on board without a net, learned a couple of little fishing and bait techniques, and also drove the boat a bit while Fritz showed me how to easily get your anchor up and out. Really good morning. If you want to catch some big reds, learn some stuff and have a great time, reach out to Fritz.

where did you send it?

After being released, a lot of fish die, but a lot of them live also.

Nice report and nice photos. Would you care to share any of the techniques you picked up?

Awesome! Fritz definitely knows his stuff, been in the game a long time. Solid work on his behalf and good times for you! It’s always a good feeling getting clients on fish like that and I really enjoy the teaching moments you mentioned about different techniques and fish handling procedures. Nothing wrong with a little knowledge base to ensure the future of our fishery. Congrats on your great day sir.

Do tell on the “trick” for pulling anchor easier! I have had that battle in the harbor many times and fortunate to not have to cut the line yet. My back, shoulders, and patience would appreciate any tips toward making that task easier.

The anchor ball system works well…unless you’re hung on rocks.

Well, basically it was just moving the boat towards the anchor but at an angle. Being a little aggressive w/ the throttle, keeping the angle so the anchor rode doesnt get near the prop, and keep going till you see the anchor trailing behind on the surface. I was going to get an anchor ball after nearly giving myself a heart attack a couple of times, but this works great.
Cheers
