9/26 Report

We started out 6 hours too early. Left dock just after 5:00 headed for the garden and beyond, and only made it just past the jetties. Decided the 3-5’ers stacked up wasn’t going to be much fun for the next 30 miles so we limped along to the Nearshore reef before deciding to head back to the dock and swap out the trolling gear for the live bait gear. Took a while to find bait but ended up with a livewell full of 8" menhaden. Got back to the jetties and saw birds everywhere and a few kings leaping 20’ in the air. Decided to slow troll the shipping channel. Seas had calmed down a good bit by then. Lines in and got 2 strikes fairly quickly. Good size kings judging by the time it took them to pull off 300 yards of line. Both fish cut off the leader. Nothing else the rest of the day except a few more acrobatic shows from free-jumping kings. By the time we left the seas were flat. Sounds like we should have slept in and headed out later. Oh well, better luck next time.
