Fished Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. Put in at Larry Koon landing both times.
Saturday:
Rolled around the point of Shull and headed to Z4. Fish started breaking surface right as we pulled up. Caught 10 right off the bat, using 3/8 oz white bucktails tipped with lime Striper Sniper worm. Pinch off first half of worm, so you don’t get any short strikes. Fish were very aggressive (unlike last year), and were easy to catch. Finished off the last five on down lines and live bait at 45-50’. Just watch your recorder and when the schools come through reel slowly up through them. Schooling fish were starting shallow over by the old road bed in Z4 and moving east northeast. (Thanks lawcrusher) Eventually ending up in the upper right hand corner of Z4. I have watched this pattern for two years now and it is pretty consistent, so if they go down move east toward Sandy beach and they will come up again. Total trip done in 90 minutes and headed home.
Sunday morning same location:
Got there at daybreak and waited. Fish did not school until the sun broke through the clouds and lit the water. Only caught four throwing bucktails, but we backed off due to a crowd. We motored ahead of the school (same pattern I told you about earlier), and I put the down rods out to try to catch bigger fish. Was rewarded with a 9 pounder. We finished out on down rods, which was brutal in the whitecaps. Baits were dying in short order, but we squeaked out our limit anyway.
I spent some time after we were done trying to mark fish at other locations but nothing was as good as Z4.

I’m confused (which isn’t really all that difficult) … wouldn’t that be moving “East to NorthEast”?
Great report David! I wanted to fish but instead got stuck taking the wife and kids out on the toon for the last days swimming on Murray. I hope to start hitting it hard in the next couple weeks.

Great report! Glad y’all got on 'em! Renee and I fished C2 - a 63 foot ledge on East side of shoal on Sunday evening for about an hour. A good many fish moving through from 25 down to 50. Caught one nice keeper on DR in 40 - and a peanut on free line.
Pulled PB, FL and DR for an hour around #26 until dark - had two hits on PB but no hook up.
First time out since before Labor Day - gosh that seems soooo long ago!!

Yes it should!.. But it will be our secret… Sshh… Don’t tell anyone. [:I]
I always have to reverse my lake language/thinking when talking to david in person or on the phone…lol…since he lives up “top” to us he sees it as the bottom. He will say he ran up to the dam all the time and it totally confuses me until I flip my switch for David. …all in good fun, just messin with ya buddy. Nice detailed report. Thanks
“All fisherman lie. And if they say otherwise, then they’re lying”
I thought so … because we were between you and Sandy Beach Sunday morning pulling freelines and waiting …
We were watching the school move closer to us as you and a bass boat were chasing them …
Unfortunately when they went down in the middle they never resurfaced …
We did manage to pick up 5 or so shorts as we moved across them after you left, but nothing to write home about …
We moved over to Wessinger/Bear to get out of the wind and ended up with another 10+ ranging from 18" to 28" … We took home a 26", 27", and 28" and released the rest and were off the water by 12:30 …
The upper right of Z2 has been fairly consistent in the afternoon/evening as well as Y4/5 (although everyone and their mother now knows about that area) …
I can’t wait to start fishing everything WEST (that’s left of) V …

I couldn’t agree more, Rick!</font id=“red”> Though when they get UPLAKE/UPRIVER I think they are more unpredictable and often scattered compared to when they are DOWN at the dam.
But from my starting point, it sure is quicker to get there and uses a helluva lot less gas. Not to mention fishing UPLAKE/UPRIVER goes hand in hand with planer board time!
