Grillage and Jetties Saturday 9/29/12. Last trip before my wife and I welcome our first child. A buddy and I blew it out. He was nice enough to let me grab three of the four hits, but he got the 34 inch. Fair trade. Beautiful day; great way to end my fall fishing.
the big boy(third picture) had a tag that was covered in grass/ seeweed/time. We didn’t know what to do about that. We wanted to get him back in the water before we could decide what to do. I think we should have cleaned and recorded the numbers on the tag. Its the first time I have seen a tag on anything other than a meat fish going in the cooler. anybody have a idea for the next time?

I’ve caught a few tagged reds this year in the Wando - there’s a number that you can call on the tag to provide your catch info which they will keep for their tracking records…usually they send you out a free shirt in return.
Nice fish.

Nice job big B! Yeah, u need to scrape the algae off w/ your finger nails or a flat edge of a knife and call them in to DNR. Some tags are money tags(reward) and others will get you data on where and when the fish was tagged. They also send a hat or t-shirt!

Good to hear from you Dr. Pat. Get that knee healed up and and maybe we can do some cold weather fishing together in a few months.
It took a little longer than usual to get the hook out of that tagged fish. Add in the time to take pictures and celebrate, and that fish was out of the water longer than I wanted. He took a while to revive, but took a big kick and was gone.
I wish I had cleaned that tag up real quick and tried to take a picture of info. No paper or pen on board. You live and you learn. But I can always use a Tshirt or cash. Maybe I’ll find him again someday.
