Brought the boat down to folly on Thursday and fished yesterday. Being it was my first time out of stone inlet we decided to wait until sunrise to navigate the stono at close to low tide.
Got a little late start around 7:00 thanks in part to too many champagne of beers the night before and headed offshore. Navigating through the stono is what everyone told me…caution is needed at low tide. We made our way out through a confused sea but kept it between 28-29 knots for the 25 miles to our first spot. First few spots were not producers. We then found a few spots that did well. We caught our limit of BSB’s and tossed back far more keepers than we were able to keep. We were able to be selective about size as they just seemed to jump on the hooks as soon as you hit
bottom. I know I caught at least 6-8 doubles myself not counting what the other 3 people on board. Picked up 12 or so B-liners, a nice Porgy and a nice trigger.
Headed back in on a lot nicer sea and kept it on about 29 knots and cruised in. Low tide at the stono this time and the breakers were across the inlet. Not the most fun cruise in. Follo wed our trail from the morning and ran in 3’ for a distance with breakers on both sides of us. This is definitely a tricky inlet and caution should be used when you don’t know it well.
All in all it was a great day on the water with friends. Decided to head back in early to get the fish and boat clean.
