90 ft out of Stono Inlet 9.4.17

Not a great report, but very few reports are being posted so i’m throwing mine up here.

Departed Sol Legare around 10am or so. Nothing like an early start right? No menhaden in the river or up on the beach, they were about a mile off the beach. Big ones. Ocean was beautiful and flat. The drift was excellent, very little current and no wind. Didn’t have to use the anchor all day.

Started out in 70 or 75 feet, with a school of AJ’s around the boat the whole time so I couldn’t live bait. Smaller but legal vermillions and grunts kept us busy.

Pushed out further to 90ish feet. Fished live bait on the bottom and on a king rig. Only taker was a single AJ. More beeliners and several jumbo sea bass off the bottom. Back at the house and all cleaned up and showered by 630 or so. Burned 18 gallons all day, which gives you some indication of the most excellent sea state.

You get better gas mileage then I do…I burned 31 gallons. It got a little choppy around the Nearshore, but was still above to run 4200rpms on the ride home.

The pucker factor of a bazillions happens when your overheat alarm goes off way out there!
