Ran out through the rain this morning to fish at 90 ft with ballyhoo trying to pick up some sails and dolphin which were there a week ago. Ended up being real slow. Saw one big king jump through the spread and had a bunch of short strikes with no hook ups. Decided to butterfly jig and on the first ledge dropped down 4 times with 3 Ajs. Moved to look for grouper or something else. Got cut off by a king or cuda there goes 35 bucks. The next spot I hooked up on a large fish fought it for about 15 min got close to worrying about being spooled but began to gain line and just when I was making good purchase the fish got off. Pulled up the jig to find only one hook left. The fish ended up breaking the rope on one of the Dancing stingers would have liked to seen what it was. I didn’t thing those hooks would ever break off. We ended up getting pushed out by a tstorm. Slow day but its always fun seeing blue water. Always next time.

We were in 95’ and had steady action all day. Ended up with a 35 and 30 lb king, three snakes and a big spanish. Had a sail on for just a moment. Wahoo to the boat but cut off on the down planer cord. three AJs and 4 cudas.
I could kick myself for not entering the JIYC tourny today. Would have taken 1st place for the king. Oh Well.
By the way, Every fish with the exception of the sail and a cuda hit a purple/black squich on the planer.

We started using a 2 foot 90 pound titanium leader ahead of the flourocarbon leader when the kings are around. That stopped the cutoffs and we have caught more kings this year on jigs than we ever caught trolling. Good protection for the $35 jig setup.
Thanks. I just got lucky somehow. It was a wierd day as I was only going out to buddy boat my son who was fishing with someone else in their boat. I thought, Well I might as well drag a bait if I’m going off for a boat ride. Well before I knew it, I had six lines out. Let me tell you what, this will keep you busy. I’ve never gone offshore by myself before. Driving, rigging baits, fighting fish all alone. What a blast!!!
