90 HP Yamaha

Recently while running full throttle motor alarm came on and then motor slowed. I came to a full stop and turned off the motor, waited a minute and cranked back up and motor ran fine. Ran it for the remainder of the day / week and with no problems or alarm?
Water pump has good flow and everything else checked out ok, anyone have any suggestions what could have caused the alarm to come on?

I had the same issue last year. Turned out to be a bad tach but had to trouble shoot all the other potential issues

I use the maverick forum FAQ to trouble shoot a great deal of the maintenance issues with my boat. It is primarily oriented towards flats boats but has a wealth of info.

2 stroke
Thanks

The oil sensors on my 90 has a tendency to leak a slight amount of oil. When it drops below sensor it causes the condition you described. But, you would normally need to add oil to restart. Still, problem could be at that sensor.

that motor only has 2 things that will make the alarm sound
over heat and low oil
the alarm sounds at 180 degrees
water coming out of pee tube doesn’t tell you what is getting to the powerhead

unfortunately cant fix it if its not broken.
you could have caught something on the intake while running, and when you shut it down, it fell off (grocery or ice bag is pretty common)

Thank you, will keep an eye on it!

Still running strong!
