Neighbor acquired a 90hp 4 stroke Yamaha from another family member. We were talking about it yesterday and he asked me how to tell if it was fuel injected or carbureted. It is laying on it’s side and the only writing on the cowl is 4 stroke. I told him to get me the model # off the registration and I’d ask. While we were talking a friend of his came up and said if it is carbed it isn’t worth anything. Said Yamaha has problems with carbs. I believe this motor is a 2003. What should I look for in the registration that will indicate fuel injection?
He had a coworker try to buy it. Will feel him out and see what he is gonna do with it. I know his initial plan was to put it on a boat he has in the yard.
What are you talking about interceptor? All MY neighbor did was ask me how to tell if it was carb or injected. What did he lie about? The only information he gave me was it was a 90hp Yamaha 4 stroke. I already knew that much from helping the nephew do a water pump rebuild.

I think I see what interceptor is looking at. He read the “said Yamaha has problems with carbs” as my friend said it. That is also part of what HIS friend said. I have seen this motor in action and know it ran good for at least 3 years that I know of. However it has sat idle for a couple years.
Yes C V everybody is confused now lol. But I did say a friend of his.
Now that we all understand that situation lets move to another. How much is a carb job on one of those motors? If he keeps it he is gonna have to get her cleaned up or it more than likely won’t be running right.
Yamaha’s don’t have a carb problem, carbs(regardless of manufacture) have a problem with crap fuel, and let sitting for extended time without proper maintenance. Let them sit long enough that the insides get chalky and you’ll have a $$$ problem
