My 2001 90 Yamaha 2 stroke started running hot so i figured it was time to change the impeller and it was as the old one is pretty worn. So I got the old one out without any issues but I can’t for the life of me figure out where that o ring that was in the kit goes. I need some help. This thing is about to frustrate me. I looked at forums and YouTube videos and nothing spells out where the o ring goes. Please help.
See the diagram below, are you referring to the large o-ring (# 28 on diagram) under the base?

I’m not sure. There is an o ring in the kit and I don’t know where it goes. I watched a YouTube video of a 50 hp newer model and there was an o ring that fit around the outside of the stainless drum(part 22 in the diagram) that the impeller goes inside of. So basically in the video they put the stainless drum inside the plastic housing and there was a ridge around the top where the o ring went. But when I try that the housing doesn’t seat flush with the gasket because there’s no ridge or groove cut in the housing for the ring to sit in. But from looking at the diagram it looks like the o ring goes further down in than what I took apart. Is there a description of each part number and what it is where that diagram came from?
The O-ring in the diagram goes around the bottom of the water pump base. Thats the one that comes in some kits. If you didn’t get that far into it, don’t worry about it. Just reinstall the lower unit and check test run your engine. Should be fine.

Makes more sense now. One more question. I put it back together like that just to see what it looked like. Without putting the foot back on I put the hose ear muffs on it and turned the hose on just to see what it would do. There is a tiny pin hole leak between the plastic housing under the metal gasket. What do I do about that?
Don’t worry about it, it won’t be pressurized like that in the real world. Just put the lower unit back on and test run it. Let it run long enough for the thermostat to open and engine to warm up.

This won’t help you swap the impeller (the parts drawing above is best), but the Yammie Owner’s Manuals are free:

Thanks for all the replies. I’ll get it put back tomorrow and fire it up to see how it pumps.
