96 15hp gamefisher problem

i am trying to replace the impeller on this game fisher and can not remove the lower unit. ont know what i am doing wrong. any advice would be great. took all four bolts out the the lower unit dropped about an inch the took the screw out the holds the shift rod together. once i took the screw out it was suppost to drop out but it did not is there any thing else that i am missing?

I had 86 model Gamefisher… the 4 bolts and the stainless allen head bolt for the shifter is all I recall…

that is my problem. it is not sliding out, should i turn the motor over an shoot some wd40 down the shaft and see if it will loosen.

I think the only thing holding it now is corrosion on the shaft spline in the power head. Yes, I’d spray some anti-corrosion goo in there and let it sit a while. Then make 2 wooden wedges shaped like door stops. Tap one in from each side of the gap, using a rubber mallet. Alternate sides to keep an even pressure and it should come out.

awesome i will try it out thanks for the input!!!

I agree with Cracker. Note: when you do get it off, before you put it back be sure to grease the splines on the driveshaft. Sounds like the last person to take it off either did not grease the splines or did not grease them enough. Or, maybe it has never been off?

It ain’t no mystery…this beer’s history!

tried agian and still no luck.
