So what does a good day of fishing beat?
Three Dog Night sent me a txt and said he wanted to go out yesterday. We headed out at 6. Had to run a N course because of the waves. We were able to run really fast. He has a awesome boat that was able to run 40 mph. Around 125’ we started seeing groups of 50 fliers at a time so I said lets drop lines. Within the first 20 minutes we had a bite off so we switched to wire leaders. We picked up and was gonna head further out but found a big weedline on a rip with some drift wood. One cuda later we had a nice size wahoo on the line. The first for the boat.
As I was gaffing that fish I looked down and saw a huge school of dolphin! I threw one of the trolling rigs at the school and had a hook up but the bite wasnt what I have seen from schools before. They seemed to be scared of the big rigs. After watchin a few fish snap up chum pieces I tried a single piece of bait on a naked hook. Every time that hit the water it was fish on. The rod i was using I had brought for sibinki cigar minnows. The schoolies were a ton of fun on ultralight.
After putting a few dozen in the boat a school of porpoises showed up and ruined our fun. We left and to a noaa bouy for bait. I threw the net on a few but there were some of the biggest cudas i had ever seen. Some were around 6+. We went to a spot to try bottom fishing. We put a few fish in the boat and had a couple break offs but nothing spectacular there. At 38 mph we were back at the hill in two winks. Had a great time with a great crew!!
