A boat for offshore

I am thinking about buying a boat in the 25 to 35 foot range . Could I get some input on what y’all think is the best boat out there in gas mileage, comfort and handling rough seas. I just don’t want to take the salesman advice

That is a gigantic spread. What is the budget? Are you looking for a CC, a WA, an express?

It looks like a good time to looked at used boats with the threat of $5.00 a gallon gas coming.

A wise man once said “Do as I say not as I do” Good advice when I tell you that.

A SeaVee 340 with twin IPS pod drives would be sweet:sunglasses:

if i were you i would get a 22’ or 23’ center console with a 200 or bigger. or if you want a 24 or 25’ get a cabin or an express and those can rigged up for fishin offshore better than a CC if you put your mind to it and are creative.

There is no greater fan of fly fishing than the mud minnow.

The Yellow Fins are a sweet ride. Ive fished on a few. They are fast, dry, and a great ride. Not to mention slick looking.

I would look into a larger center console in the low to mid 30s range. I run 25’ and 33’ Dusky center consoles and think they’re a well made, solid boat.

I primarily run the 25’ Dusky 3-7 times a week and my only complaint is the lack of a good livewell and rod holders all around the gunwales. I’ve got an in deck livewell but there’s no pumps and it’s just got 2 through-hull fittings so I have to pour buckets of fresh water in to keep the baits spunky. Other than that it’s a solid boat and moves pretty good with a very quiet Suzuki 300. It handles rough seas pretty well and I can run offshore (20-35 miles) 2-3 days in a row on a full 150 gallon tank of gas. We’ve got removable outriggers in the gunwales on one of our 25’ Duskies but even though they’re pretty basic I can run 5 lines comfortably with the riggers out.

The 33’ Dusky has nice out riggers, good electronics, twin 300 Suzukis, tuna tower, and a good livewell. It’s got more deck space in the back and much more comfortable to fish. We’ve got a good bit of storage and it does pretty decent in the nasty stuff. The only two things I would change about it would be controls in the tower and rod holders mounted in the gunwales all the way around the boat so I could set lines from the front when drifting baits or kite fishing I’d want the all around rod holders on the 25’ too). I can pull up to 8 lines with the right crew on a nice day.

There’s something to be said for having a bigger boat and multiple motors when you’re offshore, especially with as far out as you need to run out of Charleston. It’s luckily never happened to me yet, but I don’t like the idea of being stranded when my one and only motor goes out for some reason when I’m way far out.

We fish 10 people at a time on both of the boats when the Boy Scouts are down here so they’re plenty roomy for 4-5 people. They are by no means flashy or pretty boats like the Yellowfins, Everglades, etc but they’re solid boats built to fish. Feel free to PM me with any other questions you may

as long as you aren’t hung up on mono hulls only take a test drive on a CAT. LOA to LOA mpg and ride is better and shallower draft

Call Billy Freeman and put in an order for his new 37. Bit bigger than what you are looking for but should be a nice ride.

Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!

I run an ‘89 25’ Sea Vee with a 2008/09 Yam F250. I avg about 60 gallons of fuel for a full day of trolling. Thats is running conservatively and not at full throttle. Beautiful riding boat.
