Went out the other day with Justin Carter from Redfin Charters. Justin catches more big trout than anyone I know and when the chartering slows down we try to get out to target big trout together. Sometimes here, sometimes travel. The solunar basically said “don’t fish today” and it was pretty spot on, as we caught a fair amount of trout, but only one of size, around 20".
The day was made when we hit a bank that neither of us had fished before, or at least not in a long while. We found some hungry redfish of size and I got this one at 25" and realized when it was in the boat that it only had one eye. Somehow it found my lure and by all evidence it was fat and healthy. Lateral lines I guess… I tagged it and hope it gets recaptured at some point.
A little later Justin hooks up on something big. Really big. Didn’t even see it for what seemed like forever. Eventually, this BULL red rises up, estimated at 43" and inshore. Never heard of a fish that big inside the creeks. Neither of us will forget that fish I don’t think.
You never know what you’ll see…
