I got a chance to fish a little on Friday evening, before the lightning chased me off, and Saturday’s high.
I managed one nice 24" red on Friday. I was in the process of paddling off the flat as a thunder storm caught me… the lightning was getting close. As I paddled back across a flat a fish was just tailing away, and I couldn’t help it. I caught him straight away, but I tell you that lightning and thunder were getting so close while I was fighting the fish that I was cringing every time it went off. Landed that fish and beat feet outta there:

I was able to get out again on Saturday evening with my friend Paul. The weather felt like fall, it had to be in the mid seventies and overcast. The water even felt cool. The fish thought so too because they were tailing pretty good. I ended up catching two, the first was a 23 inch fish:

The second fish wasn’t tailing. I was watching the bait come off a point of tall grass on the flat when I see this monster wake coming right at me. The fish had a bow wave going and I got my fly in the right spot. The fish gave me a really good fight, and ended up running 31 inches:

All in all a great weekend.
