Dumb question from a freshwater (wanna be saltwater) fisherman, what is the beanbag used for?

Ride in them on the way out. 2+ hour trips sometime take a toll, nothing like a bean bag in the back of a boat. If it is a “nice” day at the helm, a bag at the transom will probably let you sleep.

Beanbags:
To let the oldman drive, watch for obstructions, watch for breaking fish, watch for birds, keep an eye on all the gear, balance the list if everyone decides to migrate, monitor electronics and engine(s) operation…
Oh, those resting on their kiesta sometimes leverage themselves in so securly ya need to be cautious about storing rods/reels in designated racks under gunwale - prime foot rests with $$ results!
Careful about storing them on top the T-top - GPS, Sirius antennas aren’t cheap nor are they sold offshore.

Good for you getting out there after them. Sounds like a good time regardless.

We lost a beanbag trolling friday. We had to circle back and retrieve it.

I’ve seen the term a hundred times and thought I would eventually be able to figure it out, but what kind of fish is a b-liner?

If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.

Vermilion snapper.

B liner is short for basket liner.

If you target them, you can quickly fill up a fish basket with them…

They are quite plentiful- normally schools of hundreds of them- sort of semi pelagic. They will come to the top if you chum them up…

Fun fish to catch, and tasty to eat. I think the grouper share my opinion!
