A few nice reds

Fish Thursday morning, early and hooked a few reds. Around 9 o’clock or so the wind picked up and the bite just stopped. But had a good morning back at the house by 11.

Just threw the cobia in from my Tuesday offshore

Nicely done!

Was that Cobia a good fight? Ive always wanted to catch one…

Yes sir. It’s nice white meat and grills well

Cobia is on my “must catch” list.

Mostly they come bostside (mostly) a lot easier than you might think.

But when they are introduced to stainless steel it’s a whole other story. A sizeable green cobia can be really dangerous when boated. Very powerful fish on the thrash, lol

The big females, like the ones down around Port Royal and Buford coming and going from the spawn don’t fight as hard as the ones you might catch out on the reefs coming and going.

That’s my experience anyway.

they like eels too, so keep that in mind. I’ve caught them before on surgical tubing homemade rigs.

anyway, you can catch them right now until the first week or so in june in your sea ark if you want

PM me if you are really interested and I’ll let you know more about the when, wheres, and how’s.

They eat good, as good as anything in the sea. The asians call them “Ling”. Loosely translated that’s “crab eater”, so bear that in mind as well.

sorry to barge in on your cool Few Nice Reds Thread @fatrat357

that’s a nice one

I gotta jump in too, sorry Mr FatRat

Used to be a really cool guy on here went by Cracker Larry, may he rest in peace. Jack of all, reminded me of Jimmy Buffett, had amazing stories. Rap knows.

One time, he said he was a young mate on a sporty and there was a 50lb cobia that wouldn’t eat, but kept hanging around. Capt said he’d give him $100 to free gaff it. Larry said the doctor bills were way more than the bet and he’d never mess with another one till it was wore out… partially because iirc he sustained long term shoulder joint damage from the beating he got slinging and holding it down

I’ve seen a cooler destroyed from the inside out while somebody had to stand on the lid

They’re delicious

No problem, fellas. The more information one can get the better the opportunity of catching. I got lucky with a butterfly jig, but I too have caught them on fake eels and unknown craft. This one’s stomach had a nice size crab in it. Hopefully next time out I’ll get a big one with all the additional information. Sorry to know that crack Larry passed. He was very hilarious and some of his reports.
