a-fish-a-knot-o Monday

Cleared Dewees at dead low around 5:30 with my longtime friends, Neal Gross and Robert Rivers, their buddy Wes, co-captain Chad Plott and Jeremy. Tip-toed out in 3.8 ft. of water then ramped it up to 28 kts jammin’ to some UB40. Dropped lines in at 7 on the ledge and threw down some warm AJBS. Lost a hoo and a dolphin off the bat and marked tons of fish on the 300 line. Only picked up a couple and went through a lull when Jeremy told me to crank up some ACDC. Before Angus had finished the intro on “Thunderstruck”, we had a triple and landed all three.
Pushed out to 320 feet and had two more doubles and a bunch of singles. Never found an area that we really worked for more than two hours. No define weed lines for us. Boxed a total of 16 dolphin. Had a blue and a sail free jumping near us and found 25 lb. tuna busting pretty good in 200 feet. Couldn’t get a bite out of them. Flying fish were all over the place all day long. Got the most incredible acrobatic porpoise show I’ve ever seen outside of Sea World. Porpoises were doing backflips and twists 15 to twenty feet in the air right next to the boat. One intentionally high-jumped over our center rigger line 15 feet high.
We also experienced the BEST fish recipe I have EVER had anywhere. Chad Plott went down to the gourmet galley and came out with freshly grilled, cashew encrusted mahi with a mango glaze. Unbelievable! Rolled home at 37 knots and back to Dewees in an hour and ten minutes!

Capt. Mel,

Congrats on another great day. Save that recipe! Hopefully the tuna will get hungry soon.

Mel- thanks for another great day on the ocean, and a very different day than Saturday. Catching a box full of fish is a great thing- seeing all the other life in the ocean is a bonus. Lets do it again soon.
