Yesterday we gathered at the Wappoo cut…a place where we have met together so many times before. This time it wasnt to sit back , relax…and spend the afternoon with friends watching the sights on the water on a busy weekend afternoon. It was to celebrate, honor…and try to come to terms with the passing of a Dear friend…Russ Broward…known on this site as top2bottom.
There was laughter…tears…and many many stories of times and adventures shared with a man who knew not a stranger…who was wiser beyond his years…and who would do anything for anyone, and who often did. He loved us almost as much as he loved the water he grew up on. He could fix anything…including our worries at times. Life was a adventure to him…and we are so Blessed to have been a part of it even if only for a short while. We do not always understand why someone is taken from us. As much as it hurts…Im grateful that Russ did not have to suffer for a long time with the terrible disease that invaded his body. As much as I will miss him…I am glad that he is now in a place where he will not have to be in pain…and will be able to do the things he loves as he watches over us from above. The emptiness that is left in his passing will sooon be replaced by the memories he left etched in our minds and hearts.
We met yesterday at 6pm… There were pictures, a wreath of flowers I picked form my yard for Russ. I could have bought some, and that was my first thought…but Russ …always full of comlpiments told me often how much he loved our little hide away out back…and how the flowers reminded him of exotic places he had seen. So I thought to honor him with a homemade wreath of flowers that were each picked and placed with love. Ed (CaptEd) made a Reef memorial to be placed on a reef offshore in which we placed trinkets, notes and mementos for Russ. There was a book of pictures that will be sent to his family as well as a book of notes for them written by those there. Carl Read a letter sent to us , written by Russ’s mom, that would
That was very nice.

very nicely done…
Sunday was a great turn out to remember Russ, he was a very down to earth person who has done and seen more than most of us will ever do and see in our life. Penny I’m sure Russ is smiling down on you now for all the effort you put into celebrating him and for everyone’s kind thoughts.

Well done, Penny. Hats off to you for your organization and dedication.
“I’m not a hundred percent in love with your tone right now…”
I can only hope to have that effect on just a few of the people I meet in this life. Would have been a pleasure to have met and known him.
