We just got a boat and are hoping to start making monthly trips to the Charleston area to fish (from Charlotte). I have never fished the area but have tried to look at reports and Google Earth to figure out where to start for our first trip this Friday. I am thinking of putting in at the Isle of Palms marina and working back towards the mud flats with the rising tide hitting the creek mouths and oyster banks. Possibly anchoring at good looking areas for 20 minutes to soak some mud minnows. Then with low tide start working our way out towards the inlet and working shell banks near the inlet at the lower end of the tide.
I know we will experience a learning curve and may not catch any fish this trip as the weather is still warming. But if anyone can offer any basic advice if you are familiar with this area it would be helpful. Or if we should start at a different area I am open to that too.
You sound like you have a plan. Stick with it and see how it works out. Remember its early and the fishing might be slow. And like 4JS said you can always hire a guide to shorten the learning curve.
Might want to give Charleston Outdoor Adventures a try:smiley:
Good luck.
A wise man once said “Do as I say not as I do” Good advice when I tell you that.
We ended up putting in at Remley’s with intentions of running up the Wando based on a charter we took last August. Had a little boat trouble first thing in the morning which ruined our plans to be fishing the outgoing tide all morning. By the time we got the boat going and got up the Wando, a little beyond the 41 bridge, it was low slack tide. We soaked mud minnows and threw some artificials but didnt get any bites.
Either way it was a great day to be on the water. Thanks for your advice and we hope to be back soon.
