A little pipe art

I wish I was half this good. This is why my boat is at Martin Marine and I’m a carpenter

Wow, Swamp Thing! My welds have been compared to a ■■■■■ of birds craping, as they flew over! Impressive work! Is this the boat with the throttle stop:question: We want pictures of that also!

The definition of awesome doesn’t start to describe that frame, same
for the boat……Don’t know who the owner
will is but is getting one --ell of a nice rig…

Thanks all. Raymond is one of my best friends and fishing partners, and we share the exact same work ethics. He picks me up when I fall. It’s either perfect, or we do it again, as many times as it takes. Nothing leaves this shop that isn’t perfect. I once heard somebody say in his shop that nothing is perfect. His answer is why the hell not? We don’t quit until it is.

My dad and his were both commercial fishermen, his still is. Mine has passed on.

I got some really good wisdom from my Dad, even though he was a very tough teacher. I’ve heard 10,000 times, “boy, there ain’t never no excuse for doing a half azz job on anything” Didn’t matter if I was cutting the grass, cleaning a shrimp hold, splicing a cable or painting his boat. You did it over and over again until it was almost perfect, and then did it one more time to make it so. Or usually twice.

One of the best things he ever taught me was the secret to success. Find what you love to do, learn how to do it better than anyone else, work hard, never quit, treat everyone with respect, honesty and integrity, keep your word and never settle for 2nd best. I never found any of that to be bad advice and I raised my boy the same way.

I was building this dory for my Dad when he died. I named it after him.

Larry, you’ve got to stop posting pictures of Raymond’s work. It makes me look like a hack.

Just kidding! It’s always nice to see old school craftsmanship.(If it’s not perfect, it’s not done yet)

As amazing as Raymond’s workmanship is, I think your words of wisdom are even more impressive. Well said as usual, sir.

Absolutely not and I sure hope that I didn’t imply any reason to. All of Bob’s work I’ve seen looks great.

Raymond has been a good friend for a long time. We’ve worked together for years on many projects and I trust him like I trust me to make it right. No shades of gray with us. It’s either perfect or it’s not. Cut it out and build it again. Sand it down and paint it again. 3 times, 5 times. 10 times. Whatever it takes. It’s either right in every respect, or it ain’t.

Hey Larry, I was thinking those welds were Tig…don’t see any beads tho… Edit; I do see some beads but does he buff them out some??

I used to be very good with the Tig and other type welding. Tig welding is so cool and clean to anyone that has not done it.

Also, the fab work to bend, cut, ect. takes ALOT of talent to get it right!!!

Thanks for sharing!

Not mine Scott, those words came from my Dad, just passing along the torch. They have served me well all my life. Might help somebody younger than me.
