First let me admit that I get a lot more from this site than I put into it. Over the last 6 or so years the info gleaned from reports here have helped guide me towards a lot of memorable days on the water.Recently with the trolling being slow and the shrimping (even with LSKs net guidance - thanks LSK I love the net but it doesn’t seem to find shrimp even in Bulls Bay!) even slower, it became clear we had to branch out. Posts by Bugcatcher and Jordan… and others got me drooling for a lobster dinner with a side of grouper. Looks like we were going to have to get serious about this whole diving thing which is going to mean a ton of new gear, an addition on the house to keep it all and a bunch of new friends who know how to dive…my wife is going to kill me…but not if I blame it on my son!!! After all it was his idea to build a speargun (never done that before) rather than buy one, it was his idea to make a video of the whole thing (never done that before either); his idea to enter it in the Charleston Angler Go Pro film festival this past Thursday where he won FIRST PLACE!!!(sure as heck never done that before!) his buddies diving with us, his first grouper etc. etc. So in case you missed the great event at the terrace theatre on thursday enjoy the video…and keep posting! Oh, and I’m still drooling for MY first lobster so feel free to PM me with your super secret honey hole numbers…I promise I will destroy them once I quit drooling!
Yella I’m pretty sure were not ready for any tournaments yet and Easy not one drop on the table tho I’m pretty sure some of my clamps maynever work again! We did look at a couple of online build videos but totally winged the grip, guard and line release. We wanted to load it a few times under water before putting a stock on. First time i loaded it it popped my weight belt right off! It’s been a fun project.
Great video right there. What time of year was it when you saw that school of dolphin? Keep working on finding deep live bottom and ledges and you will find the lobster eventually.
Don’t want to go off topic here, but are there any Moray eels down there:question: That would be my luck, getting tangled up with one of them, instead of a lobster!
Hey mike this actually is dad! Its nice to have more time for fishing now that i am too old for spooking! Hope you are keeping busy. And yes Cracker, he made me proud - best birthday present ever! Jordan we ran into those mahi about a month ago in 100’ of water. They look decent size in the video but were real peanuts - 14-16". We caught and released a few but it was really more fun filming them. Had they been bigger we would definitely have tried kabobbing some!
welcome Magzzi, there are a few eels down there but we use good lights and look in the holes before we stick a hand in any hole! we know a wreck were an 8’ moray lives and he keeps us from entering the wreck to shoot some of the 40lb gags that live with him.You know were we keep Erics boat, stop by some time or pm me. we may and try to hook up this fall when the grouper move into 60/70’, fall diving is awesome and the spearing is phenominal!
