Can someone tell me how these geniuses came to the conclusion that bsb’s were overfished in the first place…?? How did they establish a benchmark or historical population…??
I think it was a SWAG!
I think they counted all the saltwater fishing licenses, multiplied each license as catching 15 fish per day x 365 days per year. Then they added 10% to that number for tourists.

It’s ACL’s, not overfishing per se. Get used to them. There will be a “season” for every fish they can manage within 5 years.
The info you are looking for can be found at this link you will have to look back a few pages to find what you are looking for. I do not have time to look back and find it for you. Trying to every day in can Commercial Beeliner fishing before they close it too.

I aint getting used to ■■■■■. This is about acceptable as the prohibition of alcohol was. A small minority making the rules. I know there are people that don’t like me and others talking about breaking the laws, but until we do stuff that is openly defiant, nothing will happen. Fried bass come April.
Yea. I went back and read all of that bs. It says acl’s have been established to end the overfishing of bsb’s, and it states what the acl’s will be, but nowhere can I find how they established they’re overfished. I know how they came up with the bs red snapper info but I haven’t found how their corrupt asses managed to establish what the bsb numbers were 75 years ago.

I personally don’t give a chit what you or anyone else does, as long as you’re prepared for the consequences of your own actions. If you want fried bass why wait till April?
April is the month that people get back on the water. Your not such a target then. It was a beautiful day today, and nobody was out there cause you can’t keep the one fish that is tasty, and catchable any and everywhere. It sure would have been nice to have gone out and kept 4-5 fish for dinner.
Bad economy …government cutbacks. (**() guys we are expendable fish researchers that haven’t had a good discovery based on real evidence for years. So let’s come up with "data"that says the fisheries are dead. Neve mind the pictures from divers of immense red snapper and BSB schools, they are photoshopped. So to ensure our expendable gov jobs we must create a non existent issue. Wag the dog in my opinion. Oh yeah sorry DNR guys, but fenders go over my boat when you come alongside. Sorry to insult your boat handling skills, but my USCG/life boating trained skills over ride whatever you have. So don’t get too bent out of shape.
They used incorrect data from fish counts being reported at docks then compared to “other” reported numbers (commercial, rec. reported #'s from the past)- even though these numbers can in no way reflect an ecological viability issue. They are simply reported catches. It was most likely intentional to put a sense of emergency on the fisheries policies they needed to pass. Looking out for #1. They should be required to do (PVA) population viability analysis from actual fish data and numbers. Not reported catch counts.
