A serious Lake Murray Fisherman!

Hello everyone. I have been a lurker in this forum for quite some while. I have enjoyed the fine reads. I live on lake murray and fish it every opportunity I get. I will be out there in the morning at daylight. I fish by myself alot and have been pretty successful. Lots of crappie and white perch lately deep in coves in 6’ of water pulling crappie jigs(blue and black bodys with yellow 1/16 oz lead heads) I have found the smalled striper to be mixed with these fish. Have hit some larger fish but in smaller numbers.

Would like to get to know some of you guys that fish murray regularly. I will either be in a 15’ duracraft with a 25 merc.(mama rose) or a 21’ cc seapro. If you see me out there, come on up and introduce yourself. Im on murray pretty much 7 days a week. Good luck to everyone. The fishing is heating up on Murray!!!

I also forgot to mention the catfish bite is hot right now to. The catfishing appears to be better here this year than santee.

What part of the lake do you fish and or live?
I started fishing Murray in the last 6 months and still learning my way around. I have a Tidewater 19 CC bay boat. I put in at the Hilton ramp and usually fish from there up to Dreher.

Cheers

i have always caught better catfish on murray than santee.beside i’m 15 minutes away.i stay in leesville.are the perch anyt size.looking for the ones a lb or better?

where ya been sharky? You been catching any fish? I imagine you are probably ready to head back to the salt soon.

im looking to get into fishing on murray. ive been out on the lake probably 15 times and have caught two fish- a crappie and a striper. I live in columbia and the closest ramp for me is the dam, but i obviously havent had much luck around there. i want to target largemouth, striper, and catfish. does anyone want to meet up- send me a pm- i have a 17ft carolina skiff. any suggestions on a better ramp to use that isnt very far away? any suggestion on where to fish? thanks

tom i just got back sunday night from the coast.i haven’t been on the lake 5 times this year.

I’m up by muddy branch and bear creek area. I generally fish right around the house here. As for the white perch, I have caught some pretty big ones over the last few days. I actually caught one that weighed about a pound. The rest have been 1/2 lbs to 3/4lbs. Like I said “big ones”. Went this morning and caught 2 9" crappie. Not slabs but legal. I guess they kept me from getting skunked.

I have allergies and there is more pollen this year than I have seen in a long time. Makes it hard to troll with jigs. The recent rains have also put alot of trash into the water. So I find myself tending to my rigs more than I like here recently. Just a little FYI.

yep these allergies are a butt.i see th trash floating on the way to work.around big man’s and blacks bridge.the lbers are getting hard to find right now.

Hey Fishhunt6 there is a boat ramp in balentine/chapin(hilton) down wessinger rd. I think its actually called johns creek.(state maintained). It is a nice ramp close to the action. Good luck

Fishhunt6,
I live near shull and I have been driving to the dam to launch. Fish can usually be found around the mouth of jakes, back in ballentine or around goat island. If you are just looking to learn the basics I could take you out for a trip.

We should try and get a flotilla out some evening soon. Maybe a friendly $5 or $10 big fish pot. As long as coolbreeze and triton don’t show up we shouldn’t get rained out.

what the catfish been hitting on? how deep? flats? ledges? mouths of coves?

hey steely; i just want you to know that triton and i represent that statement. LOL
maybe we should get out there. it would not hurt to have a little rain about this time.
