I make my own leaders for Carolina rigs, crimping hooks and swivels to heavy mono, but I’ve yet to find a good way to store them without them getting loose or turning into a mess.
Whats a simple, redneck way of keeping them straight?

cut a pool noodle about 12 inches long.stick the hook in and wrap.use a small nail or screw to hold the swivel end.
make loops, twist tie really tight around shank of hook and leader loops, each goes in individual sandwich bag, then in larger ziploc by type
i just hang them off the side of my boat when the lead is attached!
Pool noodles are where its at. My Whaler is full of em in many uses. PeaPod can I get an AMEN

Rigs bags are worth the investment if you use a lot of different pretied rigs
Thanks. I don’t use them a lot, which makes it worse when I do want them because they are all chit up.
Good advice.

Just wrap them around one of those huge cinnamon bearclaws you sell:smiley: Poolnoodles work great. I’ve also used a piece of PVC with notches cut out on each end.

</font id=“quote”></blockquote id=“quote”>I even write with a sharpie on the side of the bag: 1 hook, 2 hook, 2/0, 7/0, 9/0 etc…catch them on sale at the grocery and stock up for cheap…problem I find is finding the dern twist ties…

I used to make my own storage system similar to above pool noodle, but if you use paper towel cardboard tube you can fit it in most tackle boxes, and in some cases a plano plastic case… Then I found this commercial product that’s extremely cheap and does the job really well.

I’m able to use this for pre-tied leaders with either a loop on the end, or a swivel - the little protrusions that they have to hang the leader from before you wrap it are small enough to use with the size swivel’s I typically prefer anyway… If you use tiny tiny tiny swivel’s this won’t work, but I cant do that with my big mitts!
I’ve tried a lot of things over the years but the leader wallet seems to work best for me. You can put 2 or 3 of each type of leader into each bag in the wallet and they won’t get tangled. They are cheap and are available everywhere.
If you don’t want to spend a few bucks on a leader wallet you can make your own using sandwich baggies and some large rings that can be found at Staples. All you need is a hole punch to make holes for the rings.
The only advantage of a nice leader wallet is that the baggies are covered and will be more waterproof if left out of your tackle box.

bonzo, the cheapest no-zip sandwich baggies and cheapest no-closure garbage bags usually come with a strip of like 100 twist ties in each box. i was scouring the house one day for a few of them and after 30 minutes of emptying drawers, remembered that we had some cheap trash bags… boom, bob was my uncle!

I can’t believe cracker Larry gave that one up. I thought that was top secret classified
I second the RY’s suggestion for the tackle buddy. I use mine all the time. it fits in a regular plano box with 3/0 hooks on it. the caps come off to store other items in there too! Here is another option http://www.cabelas.com/product/Tackle-Buddy-Pro-Kit/699707.uts?WT.tsrc=CRR&WT.mc_id=crrdtfd
Thanks for all of the nice and useful response.

Most of yall fish up around Charleston and I don’t. You won’t hurt my fishing any Plenty of fish for all of us anyway, and I hate to hear a man who sounds so frustrated to catch a fish. There are a lot of little simple tricks that make common sense, after you think about them, or somebody tells you or shows you how. My Dad taught me that, about 50 years ago. It wasn’t a big secret back then., all the old timers did it. It never hurts to pay attention
Edit: to stay on topic, I mostly use ziploc bags too.

i use the pool noodle, but cut a a bunch of slits in one side about an inch apart and place the line in it at the swivel end and then wrap and stick the hook into the noodle. works perfectly.
