Excuse the double post from the inshore report section…
I had a wonderful “stay-cation” last week in Charleston followed up with a trip to Brigadoon Lodge and Salem SC. I had the privledge of fishing 8 days in a row and the action was fantastic.
Monday started with a mix bag fly / spinning trip through the harbor. We caught a handful of Spanish (mostly on gotcha’s and one on the wiggle minnow fly) in the harbor and moved out to the rocks. We caught 1 nice trout , a couple of upper slot reds and some misc. bottom fish @ the jetties. The biggest bass that we caught was missing an eye. This shows the importance of cut bait @ the rocks. We finished our trip to the rocks with a foul hooked spinner shark (that had a real bad attitude) and 1 more monster spinner breaking us off after an air show. We finished the day @ wade spot where I caught one blue otf.
Tuesday was a little bit different. We started @ the rocks with some live shrimp and had non stop bonnet action for about thirty minutes. We then 5 juvenille jack crevalle. During the jack bite, we managed to get a nice 1+ lb croaker to the boat. The croaker went on the big rod (unattended) and we where back to fishing shrimp. About ten minutes later my 6500 Baitrunner starts to sing and we had a nice 90+ lb tarpon in the air. He broke off my 80 lb leader and that was all she wrote.
Wednesday was a great inshore trip. We fished the Cooper hard and caught 15 trout (3 otf on the green and white deceiver) as well as 3 flounder. Wednesday night was the Low Country Angler Captains meeting @ the Maritime Center. It was great to see some old friends and support my club.
Thursday turned into a “practice bass” fly session on a fresh water pond on Johns Island. The bass whacked the popper and the wiggle minow fly. It is always nice to finish up a first light top water session with a round of disc golf. Around 5:00 PM, we hit the road to Brigadoon.
Friday was the best freshwater trip of my life. My wife and I caught 15 trout otf with 2 of the trout being 5+
