I have never owned anything but a skiff. I am tired of having to depend on others schedules to get to go offshore and have been searching for a good used offshore boat. I have came across a 2007 24ft sea hunt and really like what I see. I want fishability as well as comfort for when my wife and family goes with me. My wife, and to some degree I do as well, want a walk around cabin boat. I have fished on a walkaround and did NOT like trying to fight a fish if you need to go to the front. The cabin does provide a place for my wife and children to get in out of the sun when they are tired of fishing or if the weather gets rough. I like it simply because i can lock up my tackle and not have to take off and on the boat every night.
Is there any suggestions you would offer up on buying used and models to stick with? I am not set on any make or model at this point but I need to keep it under $50,000 and i want it between 22-26 ft.
This does not help with lockable storage but have you considered a cc with a dodger curtain on the bow? I have seen a number of these on the water some look very functional and nice and others… not so much. It would give you the flexibility to fish and cruise with out losing all the fishing room in the bow. A boat 22-26 footer with a cabin is really going to limit your fishing space.
Behind this helm stands a sickness that not even a women can cure.
the duality of a sm cabin boat is yall could do short overnights inshore. my best memories as a youngin are of rv’s and creek 'campin"
Boston Whaler Outrage Cuddy 25 is your boat.
The more we just complain…the more things stay the same.
Nothing makes me sea sick any faster than going down in a cuddie cabin in a swell.
Instant barf.

Just like S4G said…a W/A really limits your fishing space especially compared to a same length CC. I was on a 26’ W/A and it seemed to have enough room for 2 of us to fish (trolling)but I couldn’t see going any smaller than that.

lots of great QUALITY boats out there that meet your wishes. look beyond sea hunts/ pros/key wets. for that money you can buy a nice slightly used pursuit/grady/contender/regulator/carolina classic or small sportfish.
e-mail gutwrench and get his very educated opinion.

You are out of your mind! No CC under 35ft has as much room in the back to troll as a 20’ W/A. CC are great if you have a bunch of people and are going to bottom fish, but if you are going to troll get a W/A. 4-5 people fishing in the back you will still have room.

I just saw a pregnant woman with a cigarette and a beer walking into the Larry the Cable Guy show. I’m glad my taxes are paying her medical expenses.

Maybe I am…regardless; my brother in law has a 25’ Hydrasport that has a LOT of room for trolling. From what I have seen, layout has a lot to do with how much room you have behind the console. Since the layout of about every make out there differs I am sure different peoples experiences are different. I was on a 20 or 21’ Grady (overnighter I think) and it didn’t seem like it had too much room.

I have a 23 walkaround and have had several CC’s in the past (to 26 foot) For trolling, she is great. There is enough room for 4 guys + me to fish comfortably, and best of all, I have never had a drop of water on me (full enclosure is off in this photo.)
You probably answered your question when you mentioned you hated not being able to fight a fish all around.
Some food for thought.
Here is the cockpit on mine with the seat down: It shows the room for trolling. I sit at the helm, usually not turned as much. Someone sits on the cushion behind me, two on the port side, and we leave the bench seat down till the action picks up (it flips up in a second) Since the bench seat is up a little on the euro transom, it stays bone dry all day making for some happy guests.
Here is a 2007 26 Triton. It is 3 feet bigger but most of that room is up front. It is a nice boat, will ride smoother since you are positioned further back, but in a sea, these people would be soaking wet unless they had spray curtains up. There is not much room behind when those curtains are on. Also, no one would be able to ride up front. Not a lot of places for people to sit comfortably for the long ride out/in. Remember, this is a 26 compared to my 23.
Also, I am 6’4" and have 0 chance of using a portapoti in a CC. Here is the full marine head. Keeps the wife happy and makes it easier if you are offshore after mexican food night! Since there are windows that open, and a hatch overhead, you can get air in and out. Every CC I have been on, all the stuff that needs to stay dry, gets trown in the console. Anchor retrieval balls vever fit in the boxes up front so it gets tossed in there (along with all the stupid stuff people show up to go fishing with.

Do yourself a favor and look a Parker Boats. If it is a walkaround you want, a 25 parker with twins would be perfect for your needs. Highly desirable boat when you wanted to sell it later.
bet you could get it for 50k if you asked nicely…
sorry… i see you wanted under 26 ft…still a sweet deal on that proline
