Heading to Maine in a couple weeks and super excited to do some new kinds of fishing. Seeing as I’ve never been here, I’m lost as to what to bring.
Anyone on here been to the park or surrounding waters and willing to lend advice?
Thanks

In Bar harbor right now. Fishing is very limited and will be hitting freshwater for bass in the morning with guide. I will pick his brain tomorrow and get back to you regarding opportunities available here. From what I have heard not so good. Give me a couple of days. Lobster is king, all over the place, fried clam shacks everywhere. I will check regarding salt. Beautiful place. Seventy degrees outside, rocks and fog along shoreline. Lots of bays and such. Talk to you soon Fishguy. Acadia 10 minutes down road.
Pete go to one of the clam shacks and eat up on some of the clam cakes, you’ll love em!!! Lobster and grilled swordsteaks are great too!!!
Fishguy : basicly same double drop rigs as used around here , squid strips works good , they’ve got taetaugs <spelling??> which are fun to catch “yankee version of our BSB” , if access to boat and baywaters
stripers and blues should also be available… Good luck and post results/pics…

years ago…my wife and I went to a small town called Damariscotta. We fished both fresh and salt water. The salt water was more productive. Fished from small row boats just off of the coast, along the rocks. Caught lots of pollack. Amazing how clear the water was up there. You could actually see the fish biting the bait 10-15 feet down. Miss that !!!

DId you get your lobster roll? They just had a food show on the discovery Channel and showed a little restaurant up there and how they made their lobster rolls. Butter butter butter.

This festival is coming up…Back in 2003, two 1 1/4lb. Lobsters, 2 corn on the cobs, and 2 rolls was $15…We spent 10 days up there and did everything from camping/hiking at Moosehead Lake, stayed at B&B’s in Baaaa Harbaaaa, rented bikes and rode in Acadia, festival. Very cool trip but that was before the Airlines started gouging for luggage and gear bags…did catch some trout up in the streams around Moosehead, but we weren’t up there to do serious fishing.
Fishguy just got back from Acadia. I went out with a guide close by and we landed one lake trout. Like I said before from what I have heard and experienced fishing is limited. Everyone I spoke to regarding salt said it wasn’t good. The freshwater guide also told me that as well. Spoke to allot of people about it and the same response all around. The people told me to go fresh and we did. Our Captain took us out on a pontoon on a lake and we mostly trolled for salmon and casted a little for small mouth bass which is what I have heard from a few is the best opportunity." Salmon and bass." Only one trout on half day charter. Charter was cheep at 250 but disappointing results. Nice guy, but no Captain Fritz. The park was beautiful. Tons of people kayaking. Great trails for hiking, biking and such. Fresh lobster everywhere. Fantastic fried seafood clam shacks. I will post some pics of area in the vacation section either tonight or tomorrow. Don’t want to discourage you from trying, you may do well. Water all over the place wish you the best of luck. Knock out one of those lobster rolls, quite delicious. Good luck Sir.
Awesome thanks
We really had a fun trip when we went to Bar Harbor. On our lobster run, we drove to DC and saw the 4th of July Fireworks on the Mall (totally unplanned to get there on time), saw the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. Spent a night at the Waldorf in NYC and did the Empire State Building and bus tour.
In Maine, we stayed at Bar Harbor at a motel. Nice enough, I think it was the Holiday Inn.
We got lobster at the Trent Lobster Pound. You really want to find a place that steams the lobster in sea water. It’s amazingly better than tap water.
Lobster rolls are over rated and over priced.
We didn’t fish but were greatly surprised at the beauty of Acadia National Park. We found a cobble stone beach and the kids had a blast with the rocks…they’d bounce like ping pong balls…craziest thing ever.
There is a fishing village in Bar Harbor, we didn’t try to fish though.
Oh, one thing that was neat, was the clouds that hung over islands in the ocean…little white caps of clouds. Didn’t expect to see that.

At a lobster pound, you go in and will probably have to wait in line. When it’s your turn at the counter, you’ll look in the cooler box and pick out the lobster(s) you want, they are sorted by size. They’ll put the lobster in a steamer bag and put a number tag on it and then you’ll pay for your order. (you’ll want one of those bags for oysters, but they wouldn’t part with ours )
You go and find a place to sit down. A guy will then take your bag of of lobster/clams stuff outside and put them in the steamer. When done, they’ll call your number, you’ll get your dinner on a serving platter.
A lot of fun.

I grew up in New England and we used to camp in the Allagash national Forest in Maine. Freshwater fishing in Maine is very similar to Tennessee, smallmouth bass, All types of trout, Chubb and panfish. A light spinning outfit with 6 pound test should be sufficient. Mepps #9, little Cleo’s , And small jerk baits will catch plenty of trout. Diving plugs will catch smallmouth bass.

Pretty funny:smiley: Claim it looks like we hit some of the same spots. We ate at Trenton as well. From what I could tell the larger lobsters start to get chewy so don’t go to big. Also they offered two different kinds a soft shell and hard shell. From what I could tell the hard shell costs more and has more meat. The soft shell was easier to open. Got a few fried clam basket pics. They were very good. Whoopie pies are crazy sweet. Need to split them. Was allot of oriental folks getting their bug on. We flew to Boston for a weekend and did the Paul Revere’s ride and learned about American history, Boston Tea Party as well. Allot of neat old buildings, architecture and plenty to learn about our great country. Little Italy was a blast. Old stye red sauce joints. Drove to Bar harbor in a rental. Lobsters weren’t cheep like claim said. You could find them from fisherman not restaurants for 7.00 a pound if you asked around.
Great pics Pete , looks like yall had a blast:smiley: You were close to Gails world up there , yea she’s a transplanted yank that married a redneck!![:0]
