It was.
It was a trike with an inflatable boat underneath instead of wheeled frame. Paper got it wrong every freakin time, saying it was a Zodiac with a “Parasail” or “Parasol” above it.
Trikes are time tested, very safe flying machiness. They are essentially a beefed up hang glider-like wing (much improved over the originals) that ride over a wheeled frame, amphibious boat, or strictly waterborne lower half. They have a motor mounted in the rear. I’ve flown them, and they are incredibly fun, very controllable, and safe.
Something probably just broke (cable stay or something like that) which made the craft uncontrollable. He’d flown this platform for about 10 years, so it was not likely a pilot induced problem.
