Have any of you folks fished any of the rivers between Edisto Beach and Beaufort? Where are the closest boat landings from Charleston? Thanks? Tight lines?
There is a 2 lane concrete landing with a dock at Bennett’s Point. Easy access to all 3 ACE rivers and the ICW.
Are you targeting salt water or fresh water fish? Salt water fish are hanging much closer to the sound due to all the rain and high river levels right now. Our normal red fish holes around the salt water division line are more miss than hit right now.
Coming up from Charleston Dawhoo and Steamboat are good for salt in the North Edisto, next up would be Willtown fishing down river for salt or anywhere around there for Catfish. From there Joe’s fish camp ($5 bucks and you don’t have to worry about your vehicle) then as Craig said you have bennet’s point and just up from that Brickyard. Keep on 17 and you have steel bridge and if you want to take a long dirt road ride you can put in at Fields point… That puts you pretty close to some very good salt areas in st. Helena’s sound.
If you want fresh water on the Edisto Willtown landing and up, on the Asheepoo Joe’s fish camp and mostly upstream, and then for the Combahee steel bridge up or better yet with a small boat Riverside off 17A near Yemassee. Depending on what this rain does some of our best fresh water fishing will be the first two weeks of May (May full moon)…
Forgot third option, hit any of these landings and just ride! Beautiful area! If you have any specific areas ask and I be glad to share anything I can with you. Right now you are pretty much guaranteed to catch some smaller (pan frying size) cat fish with shrimp, worms, or some cut up shad around any little feeder creeks, deeper holes near the banks, or locks entering the river.
very nice, informative response Fred. thanks. BTW, don’t want to hijack the thread, but how is the landing at brickyard? got a 1542 jon boat and wanted to try here this year. the ramp looked a little iffy when i checked it out this winter.

You’d be fine. Run by there during duck season and see how many put in there! A little late but don’t overlook that landing for some good Striped bass fishing Late December, January and February.
Thank you Fred. I have fished out of Bennett’s point many years ago. there were plenty of reds and trout. I haven,t fished any of the others. How is Wimbee creek fishing? Thanks again?
Honestly Cork, I haven’t had much luck out of Wimbee other than rays. Run it out to the mouth and there is a deep hole that is an excellent summer spot for shark.
kind of surprised at the little input on this prime area. or maybe that is an indication of just how good it is.
