Add Poling Platform - 180 Bay Scout?

Considering the addition of a poling platform (and trim tabs) my 07 Bay Scout. Any suggestions for someone to fabricate and install? Thx.

Happy Bob on here may help.

Thx all. Will reach out to a few. Dewgas - where are you located?

Sorry, i don’t get on here much, we are in west columbia, sc.

dont do it. thats not a poling boat. i bet the added weight of a plaform on the boat will impact the way the boat handles.

Get a front casting platform made that you can put on / take off at your convenience.

The total weight of an average poling platform might be about 40-50lbs. I’ve never heard of one affecting the handling. I built one several years ago for a guy with a 24’ Tidewater. He didn’t pole with it, but used his I-Pilot from up there.

Do you make T Tops? What price range?

go re-read PK’s post real slow. that’s excellent advice IMO

I put one on my tiny skiff. it fouled the performance. I mostly fish alone and didn’t use it. I got overserved a few times and fell off. I couldn’t rip that thing off fast enough.

also, a quick workaround is to put a cooler on the front and stand on it.

I think I know who you are now. Is your first name Flip and you’re into fly fishing?

This advice snapped me out of my delusion about putting one on my whaler. Plus I’d fall off mine sober

I built one on my 71 17’ whaler, think it was to high to clear the 200 long shaft found it to hard to keep my balance. drilled holes in it and 4 installed trolling rod holders, works great for bottom fishing when anchored.

Sorry hokie, I don’t build t tops any more. I work out of my garage & I just don’t have the room to do it. I mainly build small parts like leaning posts & platforms, also small alum. repair jobs.

I have a Carolina skiff J14. it’s tiny, 400 lbs, 25 hp. 55 lbs stern mounted affects the holeshot, speed, and handling. you have my word on that.

DF, Mrs. Easy doesn’t let us fish together any more. she’s bossy like that

A little sad but, may be for the best.

For a very reasonable price.

Resurrecting this old thread … I ended buying a poling platform that came off another boat. I thought that I could get it to work on my boat (it came of an older Scout 177). Unfortunately, it will not work without some modifications.

So, who can I contact to look at the platform I bought to see if I can be modified to fit my boat. Short of that … anyone want to buy a poling platform? I may go ahead and put it up for sale in the swap shot.
