I am wanting to add a second battery and switch to my Tidewater 180 CC.
The switch I like so far is the Blue Seas 9001-e or maybe one of the Blue Seas M-series switches. I want a 4 position switch for Off, Battery1, Battery2, and 1+2 combined.
Any suggestions as to where I should place the new battery and also where to mount the switch would be appreciated.
The picture shows my current battery location (minus the battery).
I bought a cutting board at walmart, turned the groove down and installed some old rod holder brackets to make a “tray”. The batteries have about a 1/2" gap between them. Put a couple layers of the foam style shelf liner under them and silicone it to the floor under the console. The groove around the board is what is holding it.
Reasoning: the cutting board spreads the weight out and keeps them from moving with out having to put more holes in the boat. If I get in a position where I rock that boat hard enough to bounce two batteries out of this set up, I probably won’t be around to worry about it.
Invest in some contact lube and some sealant spray. I regularly add a washer between the nut and the connector to spread the force. Tighten the connections correctly!
