Anyone have any suggestions on additional items they use to make catchin’ skrimps easier?
So far (in addition to boat, net, poles, etc) I have:
Beer
LED Headlamp
Glowsticks for poles
Spotlight
LED stick-on lights for inside of boat
Ice for Beer

Several pairs of latex gloves,A big mixing stick,Kitty litter box to put bait balls in,a chit bucket & strikin paper
bibs or overalls…it can get chilly when you are soaked
more beer and a brunette to offset all the blondies
17.5 grady cc 115 yam
I can’t = I am unwilling to try
working on mysteries without any clues
washtub to dump shrimp in.
hot tub and a redhead.

Shrimp basket inside of plastic wash tub…that way you can lift the basket…dump in cooler,…then dump water over.Couple non slip strips on bow of boat…or can stick a couple of those non slip tub shower ones on…plastic dustpan for getting shrimp off of floor. Skeeter/gnat spray…extra length of rope tied to your cast net rope for when the wind is. Lowing…the tides are Rollin’…or the water is deeper…that way your net won’t close to early…cheap solar lights like you put in the yard make nice inside boat lights for the waiting…and you can get them for a cople bucks from most drug stores or dollar stores…stick them in your rod holders…duct tape…it fixes everything…antibacterial hand wash…it’s just a good thing to have.
Ps…glow sticks at the dollar tree…four to a pack for a dollar…
Y’all be safe out there. Have fun!

bungees to hold poles in a bundle
fishing rods (and dink shrimp from last trip) for the time between stakeout and scrimpin
rectangular kitty litter bucket for bait (onepole and E-Z credit- fits easier in corners of boat)
opened-up cardboard from beer box for putting pattied bait on. if not all bait balls are used in a trip, take home in kitty litter bucket, then back onto box in chest freezer = individually frozen for next trip. don’t leave them in the bow hold until the next trip…
scrub brush for slippery bait spillage (i know, bonzo…) and fingernails (i know, spmirhs…)
additional red strips of reflective tape for every other pole/end poles (quick pole count/position check)
extra cooler full of beers and ice- transfer ice after each pass to mix with scrimp as needed, then drain melt water back out = only cold scrimp in a dedicated 48qt. bonzo uses frozen water bottles to accomplish this, which may be even easier
“test net” of lesser quality than go-to net for prospecting in new areas
front and back anchors to position next to a pole just after baiting, a la onepole method, and throw every few minutes when you expect the bugs to show up
a solid understanding of what 25 yards from someone else’s poles looks like
zip ties for everything
everything penny said
last, but not least:

I use old coke bottle trays to set my bait balls on to dry.

yea, I use 10 frozen water bottles (seltzer water size) to keep the shrimp cold in the cooler, slowly adjusting them up through the mass of shrimp as they fill the cooler…lastly remove the water bottles and you have a full cooler of shrimp…get past the man, divy them up then add ice to your portion…man, I’m looking forward to Friday!

another thing I will not go shrimping without: gloves. Wore a set of mechanic’s gloves for my last few trips, made a huge difference in how the hands felt the next day! I found that the ones with the thin, non-textured leather palm don’t interfere with throwing the net or heading shrimp, and they keep the shrimp spines and funk out of your fingers. call me what you want, but I don’t like my hands feeling like raw, swollen, infected bags of meat the next day!
plastic dustpan, that’s a good idea penfishn!
