I currently have a Garmin 160 Blue Fishfinder on my 18’ CC. I would really like to have a nice but reasonably inexpensive navigational system on my boat. I do not know much at all about marine electronics so am looking for some advice. Should I get a device that just does navigating (GPS only), since I have a depth/fish finder, or should I get a combo device that does it all? If so what are some brands/models to look for?
440’s are discontinued when I was looking back in July for one for my boat they were backordered. Then found out they weren’t making them any longer screen issues is what I was told so went with a 540. Take a look at jandh products on the web there prices are hard to beat.
Had a rotten experience with Lowrance and their tech support team at Lowrance headquarters. Buy what you will, but for your sake, stay away from Lowrance and their units. Nothing but TROUBLE!!!
If you buy a garmin I would get one with the sounder. It will cost around $100 more, but if you decide later that you want to add a sounder it will wind up costing more than 300 by the time you buy the transducer and box.
