Advice on Re-Stitching a Vinyl Seat Cushion?

Some stitches have pulled loose on the seat cushion for my big cooler. After looking at replacement cost, I have decided to try repairing it. I have bought the curved needles, and the outdoor thread and looked at a YouTube video. It looks doable. Any advice, pitfalls to avoid? thanks.

Depending on how old and tough your vinyl is, be careful not to over tighten. I over tightened the stitches and while it looked great, it ended up creating a new rip about a 1/4inch from the stitching. I got the feeling that by the time the factory stitching has let loose, it’s time to reupholster.

Keep in mind I stitched in place. You may have better results if you remove the cover, flip it inside out, and sew it like the manufacturer did.

It might also be worth asking a local upholstery shop to take a look at it. They might be able to save you a few and it will be done right.
