Advice on some near shore spots to take my son

I am relatively new to the saltwater seen. I have in the past fished mainly for fresh water stripers in the upstate. This past summer bought a new boat and have been going offshore some(mainly bottom fishing). We have had several good catches at the Y-73 and the commanche reefs late summer and fall. I was looking for a good location to take my 7 year old that would be little closer in but still have some good action. Looking for any suggestions. We will be coming to town tomorrow and fishing Sat & Sun. Thanks for your time.

Any of these will give him plenty of action…

Good Luck

Charleston 60 and the nearshore reef are good artificial reefs to keep a 7 yo entertained. More BSBs out there than you could ever want. Most are small but it can be fun. In a month or so the nearshore will have good numbers of sheepshead and trout. If you go a little further out you can find good live bottom that may hold grouper and tons of BSBs.

What is the best way to search for live bottom areas. I have to navionics saltwater chip in my gps. It has a lot of unlabled pts that I have not checked out. Is there a better chip out there? I have dual lowrance x-113 graphs.

I i’md two sets of numbers for you. 1 in 70’ and 1 in 90’. Cruise around and watch your depth recorder…Good luck! </font id=“blue”>

Get a MapsUnique or UniqueMaps whichever 1 it is. Mine is in my boat in Charleston, I’m in Lexington. They have about 30-50 sets of live bottom #'s…only been out of Chas n my boat 2 times and never had the equipment to read low relief but got a new gps/ff so plan to hit some soon. Try them out. Think there are a few near the Chas 60 & St Fredricks Day reef…there is a GOOD line of live bottom and structure from the last Chas Sea Bouy and follow the 150 degree line…Just watch your ff and I’m SURE you hit some good readings!

Right now, the C BASS are so thick at near shore reef that you can pull them up on every drop. Great “first” fishing place offshore for a 7 year old. They will catch a TON of fish and will still have shore in sight (just in case…).

My ‘secret’ bait for my boys and C BASS is to use 2" Gulp peeler crab (new penny and molting colors). You can use on a double hook rig and use same bait all day long. They will be pulling up fish (doubles) all day long and dad will only have time for releasing and measuring. Tons of fun.

Use a 4" gulp shrimp to weed out the little BSB

I’ve had 10" CBASS eat a whole 4" gulp shrimp. For some reason, all sizes TEAR UP the 2" peeler crabs. It’s not even fair. I don’t use them too often, but when the boys want a guaranteed catch, it’s a SURE thing.
