Advice please

I know this is the saltwater forum but I need some advice. Moving from PA to the area in a year or so and purchasing a new fly rod now. looking At the TFO bvk and pro 2. Both in a 5 or 6wt. Any thoughts on using one of those? Wanting to fish mostly freshwater…

I think the BVK is their best rod, I have the 5 weight, but you should trial cast them to see which you like.

Moving to the coast but fishing freshwater? Get an 8wt and have at some redfish in the salt!

Freshwater for now. When I can say my cast is better and I feel like I know what I am doing, I will get what I need for down there. The issue is buying something now to use in Pa that I can use in SC too

you can buy a six weight… the BVK and the Pro would be fine… but its gonna collect alot of dust down here… there really is no such thing as a crossover rod for fresh and salt… So basically that rod will become a pond rod when you move anyway, so I wouldn’t worry too much about buying one you want to use here… if you want a rod for PA now then just buy a rod for there… if you’re more interested in getting a rod for down here then buy an 8wt and start practicing with it and don’t worry about PA… Thats just the way I look at it though…

Thanks. I plan on fishing here as much as I can so I guess I will have to wait for a salt rod

The BVK wld be my choice bw the 2. In a 6wt. You can get into some big fights with a 6…

I picked up the CLouser in a 5 wt. Going to use it here and see how it works out. Bobby Clouser works at the Bass Pro here and I thought I would support him…

Go with a 6wt or even a 7wt, make sure you get a saltwater series. This way you can use it in fresh and saltwater. 5wt is the best weight to use for any freshwater trout fishing on the east coast or the West (Montana, Colorado, Wyoming). When I moved from Virginia I sold my 5wt and went to a saltwater 7wt. I can use this for redfish in Charleston and it will get things done for trout fishing.
