Advice

Hi All: I have been lurking for quite awhile because we will be moving to North Myrtle Beach in the next 6 months or so and I am looking forward to saltwater fly fishing. Knowing that I will be spending time chasing whatever will bite the fly of a newbie, I have been putting together the kind of gear I might need.

I have a number of questions that maybe the members could help with. First I bought a 9 ft. 9 weight rod and a Lamson Lightspeed, I have heard that you should overline rods is that so? Regardless of wt. of the line what kind of line should I be looking for this outfit? Similarly for an 8wt single handed rod that I have.

Now we come to an 11’3’’ switch rod that I have. I have been told that I could use this for overhead casting with a Rio Outbound short but what weight line should I get? Do I over line this rod also? Should I also get all floating lines or some other type?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks to all.

i toss a 11’ switch 7wt and the rio ob is a good choice for that rod, as is Airflo, tactical spey.
i generally stick to the recomended line weight, but you can def overline. even underline (forces you to make tighter loops and thus, beat the wind a little better).
