Went out at low at like 11 because I figured the cold morning bit would be slow. Well the people I met out there fished the am bit was decent on the outgoing and then shut down close to low. I covered some water trying some spots for most of low tide and some of the incoming. Went back to a spot I tried at dead low and caught like 5 trout 1 about 15 inches and the rest under 14 and missed 3 hits. I got a loop on my reel and by time I got the mess on done the bite stopped. Worked my way back and pulled my kayak up on a oyster bed and got out to stretch out and wade fish. A few cast later I see the wind blow my kayak by and to the other side of the creek. Its to deep to wade to and I spend about 15 minutes trying to hook the front with my jig so I don’t pull my rod or crate off the back. Sure enough I snag the marsh and pop it out and snag my reel handle and have to finesse the kayak over without pulling my rod out the holder. In that process I ruined that spot so I moved further back to another spot. I got a little hit and throw another cast but get spun by the wind so I’m reeling it from behind me. I feel something and set the hook but it felt like a cinder block so I dropped my rod tip some to turn and look back and my bait was on top with not even enough line to touch the bottom. So my snag was a big trout. I only catch trout in this spot so I know it was a big trout, quiet the disappointment. I figured today would be slow so my goal was a trout over 18 and it definitely was, I had it on and basically let it go. Over all fishing was slow and I had like 10 to 15 hits a couple pecks and a few that were on but didn’t get the hook. I glued my slim swim on my jig head but I am undecided if I like it. It doesn’t fall down or get pulled down but the pulled down bait is a good way to tell if you had a hit or bumped something. Fished from 11ish to 3ish but probably an hr total of lure throwing time. Covered about 3 or 4 miles. This place is usually loaded with bait and I didn’t see anything but tiny
I appreciate the fishing report.

Fished from 11:30 - 5:00. Fished some mouths to creeks off the Kiawah. Went way back in some creeks off the Kiawah. Saw 2 schools of trout scurrying under the boat in ~2-4 ft of water. No bites. All were 8-10 inches. Fished a few spots along the banks of the Kiawah where i killed them this summer. Fished some spots along the stono. Not a single bite.
Tried the 3” slim swims, live shrimp, live mud minnows, not a single bite. Similar to the last 2 times I’ve been out, not a single bite until i fished the same spot near the landing in Wappoo Cut where i caught a fish. I’d say I’ve been out 5x in the last 10 days for 5+ hours each time, caught a 17” red, a 16” trout and a 10” trout today, all in the same spot. Very depressing. Crushed the reds and trout last time i was in town in September, now i can’t get a bite no matter what i do. Thinking about learning to knit or play the piccolo bc I obviously need a new hobby.

I do… and it’s not…
I switch to artificials this time of year to cover more water since the fish don’t move a lot. I think sometimes its a matter of how close you can get a good presentation right in front of them. I mastered working the small paddle tails in the trout pond in Maggie Valley It was a horrible day to fish and the guy who ran the pond said don’t expect anything to bite. It was clear water and I could see the fish and my lure and watched for what would produce a reaction. I switched lures, speeds and everything else till I got them striking almost every cast. I think the slow swimming minnow triggers a instinctive bite. So if you find the fish or know where they are just work that spot with a slow moving small swim bait like a minnow size paddle tail. I like to work a bait in clear water to figure out the action. Once I get the presentation that I think looks the way the real bait I am imitating I go with that. Very small differences like a pause or twitch or speed make a big difference. I use the 500 series reel and a ultra light because it slow speed even if I reel faster than I intend to, more sensitivity and it makes it more of a fight. For the most part I pull and twitch the rod slowly like a ft to 2 ft and reel back to my original rod position and repeat. To far of a movement and you won’t be able to set the hook. Sometimes I just reel in a slow broken rhythm like a half turn, 3/4 turn, 1/4 turn maybe a full turn or so every now and then and add in some light twitches. I also will just reel super slow and steady some time and just let the bait swim straight with the tail kicking. If I’m in a area I know has fish, I rotate styles to see what they want. Often when i catch more then 1 it is doing the exact same thing as I caught the first 1 and usually in the same spot. I try to be very conscious to what I am doing. I also only focus on working my bait. I used to try to think about the fish, water, wind and other things but I have far more success when I focus solely on what my bait is doing. You
