Any one installed an after market rearview camera for trailer hookup? If so what brand and where did you obtain it? Did you I stall or have it installed?
I put one in. Can’t remember the brand off the top of my head. Got it from a friend who used to do lights/etc on police/fire/construction vehicles. We installed it ourselves, it was very easy. I chose to swap out the stock rear-view mirror since I didn’t need onstar, went with an integrated mirror/video screen.
I’m very happy with it. The only thing that I didn’t realize would be a problem is that the lines on the screen don’t always mean you’re the same distance away from something if the height of it has changed. You know, like a trailer hitch that may be 6 inches higher than the last time you hooked up. But even then its super convenient.

I’ve also been wanting to put one on my truck, just for hooking up trailers. A friend of mine installed one on his, the tiny camera mounts to the license tag holder and it uses a wireless signal to transmit to the display in the vehicle so no wires were necessary. I don’t know the brand, but he bought it on Amazon for about $100.

From what I understand the wireless ones don’t last very long, but your mileage may vary. Mine is wired, all it takes is a wire running from the camera by the license plate run up underneath the truck to whatever access hole you have into the cab. Run that up under the carpet/paneling, run the video screen wires under the headliner down the A pillar to meet the camera’s wiring, and then find another hole through the firewall (or even back through the same hole) to run power up to the engine bay. Or you could look for a fuse panel in the cab with a spare spot. My particular setup allowed you to put in your own screen (like my mirror one) or connect to an existing screen like if your truck already has one for radio/gps/etc.
Wireless is definitely easier and cheaper, but … well… cheaper.

His has been working about 5 years without any problems. It has a very thin screen that he has attached to the back of his sun visor. Just flip it down to see it.
I think it would be nice to use for watching the trailer on the highway too. Most are wired to the reverse lights power and only work in reverse. When I get one I’m going to power it with a switch so it will work in forward too. With high tailgates it’s hard to see what is going on back there.

Thanks…would love to know the brand on the visor monitor.
Have had one for years, bought it at Walmart! The sceen is so small you need a magnifing glass to see it, and it didn’t last long. Have a factory one on my wife’s esclade and it works well!

I use one of these. Works awesome.
I love being able to move it where I want. I also attach it to my outboard and use it when backing in the garage to tell when to stop the motor from hitting the wall.

I did something similar to this in my Tacoma. It’s not the same brand , but a Pioneer double din head unit for the camera and a similar back up camera. I can’t remember the exact one I got, but I’ve had it installed for a about 4 years now and it still works.
You can’t go wrong with a Pioneer head unit, just make sure the back up camera has good reviews, there’s a lot of crap out there.
I have the factory back up camera on my Lexus SUV and I like the truck set up better for what it’s worth.
I went wireless a few years ago.
I have more miles with a trailer behind me than not in the truck.
Still too cheap though!
These pull out just far enough to see over the tailboard.
One to drawbar, one to coupler, once they touch it’s all done.
Tubing is wide enough it can be drilled and rivited too!
Check with Custom Car Stero and see what they can do for you.
